Actor Keiynan Lonsdale has been cast as Wally West for The Flash season 2. The Australian actor is best known for his roles in the series Dance Academy and the Divergent film franchise. His casting was revealed yesterday afternoon. Although Lonsdale’s character bears the last name West, Variety reports that his live action connection to Iris (Candace Patton) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) has not yet been cemented. He will appear as a regular.
The comic book universe sets Wally West up as Iris’ nephew, sidekick of the Flash, and a founding member of the Teen Titans. Wally goes on to become The Flash after Barry and is therefore known as Kid Flash.
The casting of Wally West comes on the heels of two other casting announcements for The Flash/Arrow spinoff DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Actor Casper Crump will be making his appearance in the series as the villain Vandal Savage. Savage is described as immortal and has spent the last 6000 years influencing things for eventual world domination. Rounding out the casting for this week is actor Falk Hentschel who will be playing Hawkman/Carter Hall. Hall is only the most recent incarnation for the character who is an Egyptian Prince reborn through time with soulmate Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renee).
Like Kendra Saunders, Carter Hall and Vandal Savage will make their debuts in the Arrow and Flash series but in crossover episodes.
The new Legends of Tomorrow actors join cast members Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/Firestorm), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Ciara Renée (Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders), Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson) and Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter).
