Marc Guggenheim has been known to say he wanted the hit CW series, Arrow, to end just how it started. No one, not even him thought they would be on air for five seasons. As Arrow fans know, season five has been a love letter to fans and featured the hundredth episode, which aired last week.
With the fifth season being a love letter to fans I find it fitting that the writers would try to work in how Guggenheim wanted the show to end. If you think that is how they will leave you hanging for the mid-season finale, you are wrong. They will use the ending that Guggenheim came up with at the end of the season. This is how they will bring Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) back, full-circle. You may be asking yourself how are the writers going to bring Oliver full-circle? Easy – have Arrow end with Oliver being on the boat that reduces him from Lian Yu.
Now, I’m sure a lot of you are worried that this means the show is over. But that isn’t the case at all. Guggenheim explains why he wanted to put this ending in:
“It was really just a hope at that point [in 2012] that the show would run five years, and we always thought that we would inter-cut the final moment of the series with the first moment of the series, that it would form one big Moebius strip. There’s still a part of me that wishes we could do that. But I wouldn’t want to artificially extend the flashbacks [beyond five seasons], and I also wouldn’t want to artificially cut the show short. It would’ve been a beautifully elegant thing, and ‘Five Years Ago Me’ would’ve loved it. But things change, and I do think it’ll make the Season five finale pretty awesome.”
But that’s not all! Everyone must deal with the mid-season finale first. Arrow star, Stephen Amell, did give away a little bit of information on the episode that will air December 7, on The CW:
“I can tell you that Artemis plays a big, big role in our fall finale which airs this Wednesday.”
Amell has also mentioned that the mid-season finale episode is the one he is most proud of. I personally can’t wait to continue watching this love letter to fans and remember to watch the mid-season finale this Wednesday on The CW!
